I suppose one could say that the Spirit moved me this evening to finish a work which has been sitting upon the tip of my brain for the past few months. Like a flash of lightening, a single line came to me while taking a walk this past autumn, and I was convinced that I would have to write a poem around that line. Even if I were to fail miserably at this task, I knew that it must be done because of an incontrovertible stirring in my heart. I must admit that I post this with trepidation, for it is truly the product of my intuition and heart, guided by inspiration that finally came, forcing me to put pen to paper (or more appropriately, finger to keyboard).

Thanks to that glorious textual construction known in some esoteric circles as the "capital letter," you should be able to tell that this is ultimately a conversation about the effect of the experience of God, Who is Love, as the alpha and omega of creation and how that experience brings new splendor to each subsequent experience in life. However, I truly believe that this can analogously be extended to all those instances of love which open our vistas to the newness of being, exposing ourselves to the refreshing draught of the other (as well as the Other), an experience which can never leave one unchanged.

However, take it or leave it, I now hand over to you for your kind consideration:
Since You Loved Me and I Loved You

No dimness lasts when from above
Is viewed a vale by one in love,
For Love itself renews the mind,
And heart, and soul of humankind.
It is the force which binds the earth
From particle to massive girth.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Without meaning the sun would rise
Unless in hearts there would surmise
The greater myth which is in fact
A covenantal bond and pact,
For life’s abundant progeny
Are members in Love’s symphony.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Vistas anew open before
Man when work he does not abhor
And in spirit of unity
Embraces Love’s felicity.
Each task is seen in fullest light
With work perceived as more than plight.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

The autumn tree gleams from its boughs
And to the world renews the vows
Of single Glory splintered through
The world of men in gleam and hue.
Yet colors these would only be
Without Love’s single unity.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Softest caress from man to wife
Or hand-in-hand for workman’s strife
Express a unity most fair
If only man does stop and dare
To see the spirit thus ascend
As from even bodies we do transcend.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Each scent of ocean from mist-breeze
Takes on olfaction that does tease
The mind to remember the days
Of youthful loves and joy-filled ways.
Thus even to Love’s single dance
Is found a servant in fragrance.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Through the lips and on the tongue
Days past like bells in churches rung
Clang forth desiring to be seen
In eye of mind with sight thus preened
By memories of festive life
About the table in rest from strife.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

The ears do hear the babbling brook
And far-off trickle in the nook.
Yet such secluded audibles
Are attached to joyful gambols
And also in the soft retreat
Whispers were passed in Love’s entreat.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Time itself is but a slave
When placed before Love’s open grave
For Love may die but what is more
Is final triumph evermore.
Above the icy gaze of time
Is Love’s uniting most sublime.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Being itself has radiance
When it is viewed from in Love’s glance,
For barriers become no more
When hatefulness we do abhor.
Even in death we see great light
For Love hold’s being firm and tight.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.

Moments in life may become bland
When without direction they stand,
Yet with strength of tautology
Love stands along ontology,
Brightening all in sensation
As central point of elation.
Vision is clear, opened anew
Since You loved me and I loved You.
